Liquid diets: a proven formula for success

Liquid diets have seen a recent increase in popularity as a fast and effective means to lose weight.

One of the best known liquid diets is offered by LighterLife, who specialise in clinically supervised weight-loss and weight-management programmes for men and women with three stone or more to lose.

How do liquid diets work?

During the weight-loss phase of the programme, you eat nutritionally complete LighterLife Foodpacks - comprising soups, shakes and bars. These meet all standards set down by government experts and regulatory bodies for liquid diets.

On the LighterLife Programme, you will lose your first stone in around three weeks, and then roughly a further stone every four weeks. This is achieved by eating four Total Balance Foodpacks a day, either four sachets or three sachets and a bar, which are available in various delicious flavours.

Whilst using Foodpacks, you will be taking in less water than with solid food. Our bodies need water in order to work properly, so it’s very important when following very-low-calorie diets that you have sufficient liquid throughout the day to replace the fluids lost from urine and sweat. Dehydration can lead to nausea, dizziness, fatigue, headaches, dry skin and constipation.

Staying hydrated while on a liquid diet

During abstinence, we recommend that you drink four litres of water (tap water, unflavoured mineral water and soda water) or black tea and black coffee throughout the day, preferably in small amounts at regular intervals. Some people on diets can struggle with taking in enough liquid because they find plain water unsatisfying in taste. LighterLife water flavours and savoury drinks are an easy way to add variety.
